The text for this group: How to See Yourself as You Really Are, by His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Using discussion, meditation, and self-reflection, our group will draw on the teachings of Buddhism to develop new ways to understand ourselves better, to accept ourselves with compassion and redefine ourselves with wisdom, and to become truly able to create the lives we yearn for.
By focusing on ourselves as we are now, we gain freedom from stories anchored in the past, but still powerfully able to cripple us with uncertainty, fear, craving and resentment. Gaining this freedom creates choice, allowing us to move into a happier future we can pro-actively create for ourselves.
That process of choice is exponentially furthered by applying the reality-view taught by Buddhism to ourselves and the world around us. In doing this, we gain the conceptual knowledge as well as the tools needed to continue to free ourselves from all forms of suffering, and become who we really are: light, knowing, clear and happy.
Important- Registration required: please send an email with your name, phone number, and a brief explanation of your interest in Buddhism to Tenzin Lhamo at: washDC at guhyasamaja.org (replace the "at" with "@").
