Meets from 7 to 9 pm (with a break).

Which pill will you take?

In this course, taught by GGBC's resident teacher, American nun Venerable Losang Drimay, we will be learning some of the key principles and terms that will enable you to pursue further studies on the profound topics of emptiness and dependent arising.

We will be looking at snippets from the first Matrix movie to help illustrate landmarks along the path to enlightenment and alternate ways of looking at things.

Some of the ideas covered in the course are:

* Dependent Arising - how phenomena exist in dependence upon causation, upon supporting conditions, upon context, and on the most profound level upon mental imputation
* Shunyata or Emptiness - how things don't exist the way we think they do
* Combining Calm-Abiding with Special Insight - how to meditate on Emptiness
* Selfhood - investigating how oneself exists as a person

You are very welcome to join in our Tuesday night classes. This is the entry point for anyone interested in finding out more about this particular style of Buddhism.

This course is part of the Discovering Buddhism curriculum developed by the FPMT Education Office. The aim of the Discovering Buddhism program is to give participants a solid footing in the practice of Mahayana Buddhism. By engaging in this program, participants will receive an experiential taste of the Buddha's teachings, some retreat experience, and will have the skills they need to make their lives most meaningful.

Suggested donation: $60 - $120. Your generous donation helps to keep programs like this going.
