Insight (Vipassana) meditation is the simple and direct practice of moment-to-moment mindfulness. Through careful and sustained observation, we experience for ourselves the ever-changing flow of the mind/body process. This awareness leads us to accept more fully the pleasure and pain, fear and joy, sadness and happiness that life inevitably brings. As insight deepens, we develop greater equanimity and peace in the face of change, and wisdom and compassion increasingly become the guiding principl …

Secular Buddhism is a new approach to Buddhism. Although there is no one definition, you can get a good idea of where it is going by looking at Rick Bateman's definition, the FAQ page from the Secular Buddhist Association website, and reading the works of Stephen Batchelor. Following are some of the features of Secular Buddhism I find most compelling: The secular approach to Buddhism means to explore the Buddha's teachings as they apply to life in the natural world without any magic overlays: no …
Happiness starts by being present. The conditions for happiness are present in each moment. Our simple meditation practice in the Plum Village tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh will help you arrive into the present moment. By practicing in a group we can take care of ourselves, by supporting one another. We meet once a week for about 20 minutes of sitting meditation, 10 minutes of walking meditation, and a brief check-in. This is wonderful way to find community, and to find home.

I'm forming this meetup to unite triangle-area Alan Watts enthusiasts. If you resonate with Alan Watts then you will likely resonate with others who resonate with Alan Watts... at least, that is my theory. We'll see. This is the format I have in mind: 1.) Meetup on Wednesdays at 7:30 pm at my place (in the 27606 area code). 2.) Have 20 minutes of quiet/mediation time at the beginning of the meetup. 3.) Listen to an Alan Watts talk for 45 minutes to 1 hour. (I've got plenty of content). 4.) Infor …
